Corporate social responsibility

At Atura Power, corporate social responsibility touches everything we do. As a subsidiary of OPG, which is owned by the people of Ontario, we have a leadership role to play in building strong communities.

What corporate social responsibility means to Atura Power

With four stations and more projects planned around the province, Atura Power is a part of communities across southern and eastern Ontario.

Being part of a community means doing business the right way as we help Ontario transition to a low-carbon future. It means being engaged in the well-being of our host communities by giving back and helping local causes. And it means remaining committed to the safety of our teammates and neighbours, and protecting the sustainability of surrounding environments.

Community citizenship program

Atura Power supports our local communities through our Community Citizenship Program, which includes support for food banks, homeless shelters, hospitals, educational bursaries, environmental initiatives and community events. In addition, each of our generating station teams and head office support a host of local initiatives and causes, some of which are listed below.

Brighton Beach Generating Station

Atura Power’s longest-running plant, Brighton Beach Generating Station, also has a long history of giving back to Windsor, Ont. From women’s shelters to school snack programs, the station supports Hiatus House, St. Clair College, Learning Disabilities Association of Windsor Essex and the Windsor/Essex County Food Bank with donations.

This commitment to social responsibility aligns with Atura Power’s broader values of fostering community engagement and making a noticeable difference where we live, work and play.

Halton Hills Generating Station

The team at Halton Hills Generating Station supports the community through a variety of ways. HHGS has contributed to The Darling Home for Kids, Georgetown Hospital Foundation, Food4Kids Halton, Oakville & Milton Humane Society and the Townsend Smith Foundation.

The team’s actions highlight the importance of compassion and collaboration in addressing local challenges. By supporting a diverse range of charitable groups, HHGS helps to strengthen the social fabric and improve the quality of life for residents in need.

Napanee Generating Station

A culture of giving and community involvement is a defining feature of all our locations, and the Napanee Generating Station gives back through the Town of Greater Napanee’s Community Initiatives Fund in many ways. Some of the organizations that the Napanee Generating Station supports are the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital Foundation, Morningstar Mission and Harmony Lounge and Music Club.

This dedication to supporting local initiatives strengthens the community and reflects Atura Power’s dedication to making a positive impact close to home.

Oakville Head Office

Our Oakville, Ont., team is committed to building lasting connections. Our head office supports many organizations, such as the Halton Learning Foundation, Kerr Street Mission, Halton Food for Thought, Oakville Hospital Foundation and WOSS Robotics.

Volunteering is important to our corporate culture, and participation in the Kerr Street Mission’s Christmas Wonders program has become an annual tradition. With both donating and volunteering, the focus is always on making a positive impact in the community.

Portlands Energy Centre

The Portlands Energy Centre, on downtown Toronto’s waterfront, gives generously to the Daily Bread Food Bank, Nellie’s Shelter, Toronto Nature Stewards, the ENAGB Indigenous Youth Agency and the Red Door Family Shelter.

Portlands Energy Centre's support of these, and many other organizations in the Leslieville and East Riverdale neighbourhoods, demonstrates the team’s dedication to addressing urban needs, reinforcing the company’s presence as a responsible and engaged member of the Toronto community.
